🧠 Is your mind set on your mindset?
Hi friends,
If you prefer to listen to today’s newsletter, hit play below ▶️. Otherwise, keep reading!
Your mindset is like a key 🔑
It either keeps you locked up or opens the door.
It’s the difference between solitary confinement or freedom.
Between limitation and possibility.
According to Stanford psychologist Carol S. Dweck, there are two types of mindsets we operate from: a fixed mindset or a growth mindset.
A fixed mindset assumes or believes that intelligence, ability, and possibility are, well, fixed. Static. Unchanging.
It’s impossible.
I can’t.
That’s just the way it is.
*throws hands up in the air * 🤷🏻♀️
A growth mindset, on the other hand, believes intelligence, ability, and possibility are much more fluid. You can learn, stretch, grow.
Let me try!
What if?
I’m willing.
*I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…* 🚂
What is the story you’re telling yourself about what’s possible for you when it comes to:
Life
Money/career
Love
Health
Your dreams
Are you wearing shades that block out abundance, opportunities, and connection?
Or are you rocking rose-colored glasses where everything is available to you and for you?
Here’s the capital T Truth: Whatever mindset you’ve got looping in that big ‘ol beautiful brain of yours is true.
Your reality reflects your mindset, so what mindset are you set on?
Many of us never stop to consider how we think about things. It’s much easier to cruise on autopilot than to pump the breaks, take out the map, and change directions.
Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right. – Henry Ford
Take inventory:
Do you tend to see dead ends, limits, ceilings? Avoid challenges, feedback, failure? Have a general feeling that there’s not enough?
Or do you see expansion, possibility, and opportunity in challenges? Have a willingness to try, try, and try again? Feel that there’s more than enough to go around?
If you notice you have a tendency toward a fixed mindset and want to begin cultivating a growth mindset, you absolutely can.
You don’t need to be a prisoner to a fixed mindset. Remember, you hold the key.
🌱Growth (mindset) happens here🌱
Self-reflection is one of the greatest catalysts for developing a growth mindset.
Think of a challenge or obstacle you’re facing. Now, reflect on the following questions:
What do I believe is in my control about this situation? What do I have the power to change?
What do I believe is out of my control or power to change?
Once you’ve identified what you believe is out of your control or power to change, ask yourself:
Is this absolutely 100% true?
Or, can I find even a .99% possibility that there’s another way, either from my own lived experience or someone I know?
If you can identify even the smallest possibility that allows you step back into your power, you’ll hear the lock click from closed → open in your mind. And that, my friends, is a beautiful sound.
Take care,
Alison
